TO SUSAN WAGGONER IN PITTSBURG - Susan, thank you so much! Yes, I do give workshops but I live in Seattle, quite a ways away from you! Ellen is a good friend and incredible artist. Hi Sue! I found you on insta and have ben inspired by your work. I'm a picture framer and artist living in NH. I use found paper, old photo's, sewing notions and thread to make collages/assemblage pieces. I'm hatching a story that I'd like to incorporate into a crankie. Do you ever come east and do workshops?

We are looking at how to make copies, and thinking blue print copies are not bad, and a size, Arch E, 36" x 48" would cut and splice into 8' of 18" scroll. What makes a good splicing tape? I am thinking to start with drafting tape and see how that holds up, and how much the splices show. Thoughts?

You have a lot of useful information on here. I'm starting my first Crankie and I wanted to know if you came across any problems using watercolors on paper for your Crankies. Was there buckling, did the paper handle well being cranked after being watercolored or did the constant rolling help flatten it out?

I put a querrie out on the Facebook group page: Crankies in the Puppet World and Beyond (join the group!) and I received a reply from Felicia Cooper:
Felicia Cooper - I'd probably use paper cement with a dry tack. If you get the unwaxed parchment paper, this should work. Also, thistothat.com is a website that helps suggest adhesives for various combinations.

Hi Nissa! Thank you so much! I haven't used culinary parchment paper before for the scroll. I think Anna and Elizabeth have. Let me ask around and I will report back. Does the parchment paper have a waxy coating on it? Sue

Hello! I watched your beautiful crankie, the Fiddler of Gord. This made my day. :-) Really beautiful images and fiddling. I recognized the 2nd tune from the playing of Cape Breton fiddlers. Is this your first crankie?

To Jason Brown - Hello! Regarding your question of how long should the scroll be for a 30 second crankie - can you tell me how tall the scroll is? If the scroll is 18 inches wide/tall, I can do an experiment, cranking at a medium speed, to see how long. You would also need to add in some length at the beginning and the end for a leader. If the scroll is 18" high my guess would be around 4 feet plus a bit at the beginning and end for the leader but not sure at all until I actually try it!
