Hello. I am a teacher in Tennessee and I have teach a drama class after school. We are going to do Beauty and the Beast this year and our stage that we use has limited resources. I was thinking of building a background panorama due to the lack of curtains.
Your website said full size stage crankies and I can’t find it. Do you have any suggestions for a crankie on a budget? Thank you.

TO ELIZABETH WATKINS: Yes! I recommend Sam Bartlett. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ He has been leading crankie activities at schools around the US for 20+ years. His website is sambartlett.com and you can read about his various crankie projects there. Best of luck to you!!❤️❤️❤️

Are there any artists who work in schools to build a Crankie and create plays to perform? I am currently writing a grant for the 2019-2020 school year and I am super excited about this being a possibility for our charter school.

Hi PJ!!! Exciting! I look forward to seeing your crankie!!❤️❤️❤️ For some reason, when I copy\paste the link into YouTube, it can’t find the video. What is the title of the crankie? If I type in the title, I should be able to find it. Sue

Hi Sue, it is PJ again. We finished our crankie!!!
https://youtu.be/QJ3WG6FiJBo
Listen with the sound on; there is narration. :-) It was only me and 3 other people working on the scroll from conception to rough drafts to everything else.
What a process it was! I made the crankie mechanism all by myself. I am so proud of our crankie! I hope you like it!!
Thank you Sue! I hope you have a great day. I love seeing your work on instagram, and I can’t wait to see more of it!
P.S.
Did you know that some people use dresser drawers to make crankies?! They turn the drawer on its side and use the dresser handles as the cranks. I wish I knew that before I made my crankie, it’s ingenious!

Hello Ina!! Thank you!❤️ I must confess, that for the lettering on the Hibernicon crankie, I used a Cameo Silhouette machine. It is connected to a laptop with special software. You type out the words. I put a sheet of black Tyvek on a cutting mat and load
that into the Silhoutte machine. Press “cut” and it does the rest. It’s a life saver!

My name is Adena Varner and I’m the Director of Education at Baltimore Center Stage and I am very interested in connecting with Katherine Fahey. We are working on hiring local artists for our annual gala and I saw a crankie at the Black Cherry Puppet Theater
Show last month that she was the main crankie artist for and I would really love to have her as a part of our gala celebration.

TO PJ: I don't know what happened to the rest of my message below. Anyhow, I was trying to say that you could also crank it on stage and provide live video projection with an I phone or a "Go Pro." The photo is from the Winnipeg Crankie Festival and I
am fiddling. They did a fabulous job of providing the live video projection. Good luck with your project!! Sue

TO PJ: That sounds like a great idea, to make a smaller crankie and then project a video of it. Another idea

Thank you SO much for your examples, Crankie Factory! We ended up deciding to create a small crankie instead of a big one, but we will project a pre-filmed video of it onstage so it can actually be seen. :-)
I especially love Miss Katherine Fahey’s
crankies! Our crankie will look similar to her work, I think.
I am very excited! I will post a link on here to our crankie video, once it is done. That will be some months from now, so I hope I remember to, haha. Thank you again!!!

TO PJ: Also, Annie Bailey, an artist from Maine painted a large crankie on fabric (she is brave😀) and it was displayed in the windows of the Farnsworth Art Museum. Here is a link to read about it. https://www.pressherald.com/2018/12/16/a-new-crankie-casts-a-glow-in-rockland/

To PJ: Also, the group Rumput, I believe they are from Richmond, VA, did a large crankie. If you go to YouTube and type in Rumput crankie, you should be able to find it.
Regarding the amount of time to to complete, two months kind of optimistic
however, you are of an art group with skills so that is worth a lot of time!😀 If you decide to proceed, stay in touch and let us know how you are doing!
