Hi Jill! I did try to make a scroll with an all black background. I used a sheet of black Tyvek and an exacto knife to cut images into it. Then I glued it to a sheet of white Tyvek. I think it would have worked but I didn’t have enough paper-cutting skills to be happy with it so I didn’t go any farther with it. I will check with a few artists and if I get more ideas, I will post here. Thank you!

I'm inspired to make a crankie and have been looking at several examples. I'm wondering how people make a mostly black background with images in color. I can't imagine trying to color in all that black so I wonder if there is a material or technique used. Perhaps the images are blocked off with a removable tape and then the paper is painted black?

Hi there, thank you so much for inspiring How to make a shoebox crankie, a demo video to help children and adults to make a shoebox crankie. I'm wondering if I could add it to your crankie archive. Hi Dan! Do you mean the Historiscope made by the Milton Bradley Company in the 1860s? If so, I do not know of any for sale.

When I first learned of moving panoramas, that was almost 10 years ago, one could purchase for under 500.00. But now, all of those toy moving panoramas go for over a thousand dollars.
