Sue Truman's Crankies

4/1/2017 - I bought someone's matchbox collection at an estate sale. I know have hundreds of matchboxes from long ago! The Factory is in production!

Hello! I have created over 100 story scrolls since 2011.  Most of them are hand-stiched felt and fabric to a felt scroll.  In 2015 I began using Tyvek for certain stories, but my main medium continues to be in fiber: felt, cotton, wool, burlap and lace.

I have also made hundreds, maybe a thousand mini matchbox crankies!  For special occasions I will make a custom commemorative batch.

To see more of my crankies, visit the The Crankie Factory You Tube Channel.  Here's the link.

Jenny's Chickens
Feb. 8th, 2020 - I have been collecting all these folk toys for years: the hand carved chicken, the kickin chicken limberjack and the Russian paddle chickens. Little did I know, I would have more time on my hands in the not too distant future, to focus on these smaller pieces.
Hibernicons and the Piping of Patsy Touhey
This combines a 1920 78 recording of Irish piper Patsy Touhey with a story about Hibernicons which were an Irish variety show. Read more about Hibernicons in the History Section of this website.
The Black Cat Jig Crankie
Made in 2013. The tune was composed by Dan Compton and is played by Lisa Ornstien and Dan Compton. This was performed at a house concert in Seattle. The scroll is hand-stiched felt and fabric on a felt scroll.
Winter Crankie
I have been experimenting with combining automatons and other cranking things with the crankies!
